Who are we We have 14 members, women and men, and are about to recruit some teenagers. We meet each Sunday at 11:30 in St Kentigern's parish room. Want to find out more? Like us to visit you or someone you know? You can contact us at our meeting or email us at the address above.

Visiting local people Our main work is visiting people who may be lonely, sick, housebound or having problems. We are there to befriend and listen to them and, if appropriate, offer advice or material help such as food or furniture. We arrange a caravan holiday for a family each year. We offer our time rather than professional expertise. While based at St Kentigern's we visit anyone in the local community and are happy to cooperate with other local groups and with caring professionals.

Overseas help We are twinned with an SSVP branch in India. We exchange news of our work and pray for each other. We raise funds each year to help our twin in their work with very poor people and have also sponsored a fish project to help the Indian community develop a self sufficient business.

Sick and housebound We recognise that our sick and housebound neighbours often miss the spiritual and social contact with the rest of the community. We organise two Masses each year and provide transport as well as refreshments afterwards. After one of the Masses we have a bring and buy sale for our Indian twin branch and so housebound local people can contribute to helping overseas.

Senior Citizens Our Christmas party and Summer bus outing are key events in the calendar for local senior citizens. Above all they are a chance for old friends to stay in touch when they are less mobile. We are helped by many people who offer transport, peel potatoes and serve food. The highlight of the party for many is the entertainment by local children. Anyone who wants to help is welcome.

Homeless Some of our members plus other local people take a turn each month at preparing and serving a meal for homeless people at Jericho House in Edinburgh city centre. Again this is an ideal opportunity for people who cannot commit to becoming SSVP members to help us.
