Who are we

Our particular group consists of nine men and three women and our Spiritual Director is the Rev. Fr. MacNamee. We are Church members who volunteer their time to help the poor and lonely in our area. We meet on Tuesday evenings in the summer and Monday evenings in the winter, at about 7.30pm in the Church Call Room.

Visiting local people

St Vincent de Paul members visit many local people, including Fourfaulds Nursing Home in Calderwood and two senior citizen, residential areas, Davar in the St Leonards area and Wingate Park in the Calderwood area. We also visit Hairmyres Hospital each Thursday evening with sweets and biscuits. Two of our retired members still visit the Hospital, 60 years on. If it is made known to us, we are glad to visit any parishioner, who may be in Hairmyres. In times of bereavement our members are there for support.

Furniture

Through the Diocesan Furniture Project we have the services of Conn Allison who will uplift suitable furniture items, for redistribution to people in need.

Help people overseas

We give financial aid to our conferences in Disaster and troubled areas, currently, the Holy Land. Also our work in India, involves many local projects, such as, sponsoring student’s education for a year, the construction of small buildings and the sinking of freshwater wells.

Refugees

We also assist Refugee families financially who are at present in Dungavel, and the Strathaven area. This is done through St Patrick, Strathaven and is one of the Motherwell Region projects.

How you can help

If you know of anyone in our area who might be in need of help, be it a visit, or financial help; just drop a note in the SVDP box at Sunday Mass or e-mail to the address at the top of the page.
