Through the Diocesan Furniture Project, as a trial period, we have the services of the Hamilton Furniture Initiative. Their telephone number is: 01698 820608. On calling them and describing what you have for uplift, they will arrange to pick it up, provided it is suitable. It will then be redistributed to someone in need.

We give financial aid to our Conferences in Disaster and troubled areas. Also our work in India, where we have a Twinning arrangement, involves many local projects, such as, sponsoring student’s education for a year, the construction of small buildings and the sinking of freshwater wells.

We also assist Refugee Families financially, by means of Phone Cards, who are at present in Dungavel in the Strathaven area. This is done through St Patrick’s, Strathaven and is one of the Motherwell Diocesan Projects.

If you know of anyone in our area who might be in need of help, be it a visit, or financial help. Just drop a note in the SSVP box at any of the Weekend Masses or speak to any member of the SVDP. Alternatively: you can e-mail us using this address: mw05042@ssvpscotland.com

Meeting:

We meet on Monday nights, 7.00 p.m. in St. Patrick's presbytery, Stonehouse Rd.

Our Spiritual Director is the Rev. John Farrell, our Parish Priest.  We have Eleven full time members; 7 male, 4 female. We also have Four Auxilliary members; 2 male, 2 female.  These members assist on an occasional basis with Conference activities as required.

Food Parcels:

Families:

Over the year we visit many families and attend to the needy and disadvantaged of the district as required and as brought to the attention of the Conference.  Also on a weekly basis, we visit Stonehouse Geriatric Hospital.

On a regular basis we send funds to our Indian twin Conference and annually we support the education of three Indian students.  We also support other Diocesan projects such as the Ozanam Clubs and the Furniture project.

From time to time we organise parochial appeals to support victims of disasters where need arises; our Conference will forgoe SSVP collections, to meet these specific identified needs.

Conference members act at all times in the name of the community of St. Patrick's Strathaven.  Our efforts bring help and support to the needy, the disadvantaged, the poor, the marginalised, the sick and lonely etc.  The Conference here in St. Patrick's parish district continues to contribute to such needs.

Other activities: Conference members contribute more widely to parochial life in a variety of ways. Liturgically, as Ministers of the Word and Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist, socially through participation in organised parish activities, such as discussion groups etc. Conference members will also invariably be found among volunteer groups assisting with whatever maintenance/odd jobs are required in St. Patrick's parish.

Bus Run:

Annually we organise a Senior Citizens' Christmas Party for the parish and in the summer, we have a Bus run for the same group in August.

Meeting:

We meet on a Tuesday at 6pm, we are 5 members, 4 male and 1 female with the support of Father Ivan Boyle our Spiritual Director.

Food Parcels:

This year we did several on the run up to Christmas, and as the need arises, we help out over the year.

Families:

We sent last summer 2011, two families to Seton Sands & they were overjoyed at getting a holiday, both families with 3 children had never been on holiday. Thanks to the kind donations from St Vincent's parishioners, we at SSVP, were able to make this happen.

We also provide transport every Sunday for the 11.30 mass.

In Jan 2012 we did 120 visits, we supplied two beds to two separate families and we gave spiritual & financial support to 2 bereaved families.

On many occasions in 2010/11 we have bought furniture for families as a result of hardship, people separating, and having to start from scratch or they have had a fire. We have found Solidarity 0141 342 4089 to be a great help with very reasonably priced second hand furniture of good quality.

We hold a mass for the elderly sick & infirm, followed by a lunch, this year it will be held at the end of April, we also provide transport for that.
