St Peter’s Mini Vinnies Strike Gold for the Environment
Pupils at St Peter’s Primary School in Edinburgh are celebrating a golden
achievement after being awarded the RSPB’s Gold Wild Challenge Award. The P4-
P7 pupils, supported by P5 teacher, Jennifer Sharp, meet every Monday after school
to take part in Mini Vinnies activities. Pupils completed 18 challenges over 18
months doing activities to connect with and take action for nature.
Headteacher, Fiona Hunter, said, ‘I am thrilled that our children have achieved the
Gold Wild Challenge Award from the RSPB. This prestigious recognition celebrates
their dedication to exploring, protecting, and caring for the natural world around
them.
This accomplishment is especially meaningful as it reflects the values of Laudato Si’,
Pope Francis’ call to care for our common home. Through their involvement in
outdoor learning, wildlife conservation activities, and environmental action, our pupils
have shown great respect and responsibility towards God’s creation.
We are incredibly proud of the work our Mini Vinnies have led, and this has inspired
their peers to think globally and act locally’.
