Professor David Hillier

The Diocese of Motherwell organised a day conference on 15th November entitled Into the Margins. This conference reflected on the nature of poverty/marginalisation and its alleviation. The speakers were Sir Harry Burns and Professor David Hillier. Both men gave stimulating and interesting presentations, with Sir Harry emphasising the importance of family and upbringing in combatting poverty and Professor Hillier suggesting practical steps which could be undertaken at parish and diocesan level. The afternoon was devoted to identifying ways in which the Diocese of Motherwell could improve their response and to outlining strategies to help individuals and families. SSVP were well represented with several members including Bridget Anne Devaney, the diocesan president, present.
