This advent, SSVP Conferences, Mini Vinnies, and Senior Vinnies are joining forces
across Scotland to support families and community members in need. The
Christmas season can be a lonely time for some and SSVP Scotland can provide a
space for the elderly in our community to feel connected.
Last week, St Ninian’s Primary School in Livingston hosted a lively Christmas lunch
for more than 50 elderly parishioners and guests from Lanthorn Ecumenical
Churches.
St Phillip’s Conference SSVP members, alongside headteacher Mrs Smith, deputy
head Ms Roy, and Mini Vinnies teacher Mr Bucknell, coordinated the festive event.
It featured a carol concert from the school choir, gifts wrapped by the Mini Vinnies,
and games that brought generations together for fun and conversation. Caritas
students from St Margaret’s Academy also came along to help and support.
School staff pitched in with serving and entertainment, while the canteen team
prepared a traditional festive feast. Fr. Emmanuel joined the celebration and led
grace before the meal. A grant from the local council helped make the event
possible.
This joyful gathering is just one of many Advent and Christmas activities happening
across Scotland. Check back in a few weeks time for a round-up of other Mini
Vinnies and Senior Vinnies advent and Christmas activities and volunteering.
