Reminding Donors that we Serve the Poor at Christmas and All Year Round

Christmas is a time of giving and many people like to make donations to charity at this time of year.

In our own parishes and communities, it is perhaps worth reminding people that SSVP are serving the poor in local areas all year round.

Archbishop Cushley has sent a follow up message to World Day of the Poor to his Diocese suggesting how we can “reach out our hands to the poor”, during the Christmas period.

We are thankful that he mentions SSVP as one of the main ways parishioners can help those in need.

Extract from Archbishop Cushley:

“Society of St Vincent de Paul (SSVP)

The Society of St Vincent de Paul has excellent local knowledge across the Archdiocese of areas of need. If you have a conference in your parish you may wish to do one of the following:

  • Ask a member to speak after Mass to remind people how their donations to the SSVP box helps local people in need.
  • Encourage people to join the SSVP (and to continue donating) and find out what initiatives they have for Christmas.”
