The Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) UK Poverty report has found that 14.3 million people in the UK are in poverty. 21% of people were in poverty in 2003/04 and 21% of people were still in poverty in 2022/23. 20 years and no progress on poverty. Behind these high numbers are real people and real struggles. With insight and involvement of the Grassroots Poverty Action Group, we captured the real stories and struggles behind the headline statistics. In contrast to the large headline statistics, we asked members of GPAG to describe in just 6 words their realities of facing the injustices of poverty over the last 20 years. These are the immediate responses we recieved from members of the group, their real voices and their real experiences.
