Saint Thomas Aquinas Secondary School has recently re-established a thriving and
enthusiastic SSVP group of ‘Senior Vinnies.’ They are now welcoming almost fifty
students from S1-S6 over 2 weekly lunchtime sessions. Led by Maria Bourke, a
modern languages teacher, their aim has been to promote the spiritual life of the
school and to this end have been displaying positive and encouraging scriptural
messages round the school in a display of white doves.
They are putting their faith into action, collecting items to make up shoe boxes full of
gifts for families and individuals in need. The group has advertised a telephone
number which can be used by any family in need of assistance. To help with
fundraising, pupils are making ‘peace’ beaded bracelets and selling them to fellow
pupils while promoting the message #makemeachannelofyourpeace
SSVP conferences at Corpus Christi and St Brendan’s have donated Rosary Beads
which pupils are using to generate a more prayerful attitude within the school. These
along with other local parish conferences will be working to support the group.
