Two formidable men

Our patron, St Vincent de Paul, and SSVP founder, Bl Frederic Ozanam may share many things in common, but they were very different individuals.

In his article on the ‘Famvin'(Vincentian Family) website, Jim Claffey of SVDP  USA,  reflects on these similarities and differences  and asks us to consider the things that unite us, even though we too are all very different as individuals.

There is no substitute for direct personal experience of the poor.  A merely institutional response to their needs is not our way.  Frederic reminds us “let us go to the poor” because Vincent tells us “they are our lords and masters.”  The Society’s Home Visit is a great example of being personally present to the poor.
